Thanks but I won't claim a ticket since I am cnoimg anyway. The next time he comes, ask him to do some Roussel, which he has performed elsewhere. You have previously been on record as liking Varga. Could you explain a bit about what you like about him? Obviously he gives a clear beat, and the tempos have seemed about right for the pieces he has played here, which tend to be flashy. And obviously he connects with the orchestra based on the players' body language. What else?. I wonder if this dynamic also depends on who happens to be the music director, i.e., maybe you need a change of pace from Osmo's way of doing things?Regarding the likely empty seats: This orchestra, like most others, has a problem in messaging when promoting concerts in that they seem either to simply list the program with a cliche ( Magnificent Mozart ) or to preach to the choir. Someone should take a hard look at this, including testing different messaging ideas. Just why should we come to hear the Dvorak 8th again? Varga? What is so special about Tony Ross doing some British composer? By the way, who is Tony Ross? These questions can be addressed in an interesting way without being silly or talking down to the audience.
